About the UN Youth Advisory Panel (UN-YAP)
The UN Youth Advisory Panel (UN-YAP) is an initiative by the United Nations Country Team in South Sudan to ensure young people’s meaningful participation in UN programming. The Panel provides strategic advice to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General/Resident Coordinator and promotes youth inclusion in the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). UN-YAP fosters youth-friendly approaches in peacebuilding, governance, sustainable development, and humanitarian responses.
The Panel serves as a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and advocacy, connecting youth voices to the highest levels of decision-making within the UN system in South Sudan.

By joining the Panel, members will contribute to shaping national and global agendas that influence youth policies and programs, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a UN-YAP Member, you will:
- Provide strategic advice to the UN Country Team on youth-related issues in peacebuilding, sustainable development, and humanitarian assistance.
- Identify emerging issues affecting youth and propose solutions to enhance youth participation in UN policies and programs.
- Advocate for youth inclusion in local, national, and international forums, highlighting the importance of youth voices in achieving UNSDCF objectives.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices within and beyond South Sudan to strengthen youth-friendly initiatives.
- Participate in meetings and contribute actively to Panel discussions and activities.
- Prepare quarterly updates on engagements and share these with Panel leadership.
Eligibility and Competencies
Selection Criteria:
- Age: 18–28 years at the time of selection.
- Educational Background: Minimum of secondary education; higher qualifications are an asset.
- Demonstrated dedication to youth empowerment, peacebuilding, sustainable development, or humanitarian causes.
- Skills: Strong communication, advocacy, and leadership capabilities.
- Diversity: Gender balance, geographic representation (two representatives per state and administrative area, (26 members), Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, Secretary and Communications focal person, totaling 30 members), and inclusivity for young people with disabilities or those in challenging situations.
- Active involvement in youth organizations or initiatives, with a preference for those contributing to the UNSDCF objectives.

- Understanding of the UN system and its role in South Sudan.
- Teamwork and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to commit time and effort to Panel activities.
